You will be viewing the database service from my desktop using the Webex Meeting Manager interface.

Blake is the Library Assistant at the EU Altamonte Springs campus. He moved to Orlando to attend the University of Central Florida where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies having studied Mathematics, Engineering, Communication, and Judaic Studies. It is here he met his lovely wife, now a 2^nd grade teacher in Seminole County. He then attended the Orlando campus of Reformed Theological Seminary where he received a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies. He is currently a student at Florida State University where he is pursuing a Master of Science in Library and Information Studies. He enjoys all things technology, theology, and the pursuit of learning new ideas.

If you’ve been to the library lately, you might have noticed one of our displays. All of the campuses work hard to offer rotating displays on a wide variety of topics. Sometimes they highlight new materials in our collection, sometimes they showcase a particular program or topic, and often they focus on titles related to a specific class that’s being offered this term.

But, what if you can’t make it to campus or you’re an online student? Why not check out some of the eBook titles listed below? In order to access e-books, log-in to the Library Splash page and click on “eBrary” under E-Books in the blue databases box. You can search by the subject or by the title.

Sara is the Campus Librarian at the Orlando campus of Everglades University. A Florida native, Sara has lived somewhere in the state most of her life. She attended the University of Central Florida for her undergraduate degree in English Literature and History, as well as a graduate degree in Nonprofit Management, before earning her graduate degree in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University. Her interest in librarianship started after an internship at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.

Sara’s favorite book is Anna Karenina. She has two cats, a dog, and a chef-husband. Her favorite part of working at the library is helping students with research. Sara is a member of the Florida Library Association and the American Library Association.

Here are a few facts about Dr. King-

• He was ordained a Baptist minister in 1954, at only 25.
• He was arrested several times during civil-rights demonstrations.
• In 1963, he gave his famous “I Have a Dream Speech” on the steps of the Lincoln Monument in Washington,DC.
• He won the Nobel Peace Prize a year later, in 1964.

There are NO ON-CAMPUS CLASSES on MLK Day, but EU Campuses will be open. So, you can come in to the library and catch up on your homework or get some research done on your day off! Check with your campus for their hours on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Amanda grew up in the “City of Pure Water,” Zephyrhills, Florida. She is a graduate of the University of Florida and the University of South Florida.  Prior to her library career, Amanda was a zookeeper and an animal trainer, working with species ranging from alligators to zebras.  However, despite all the exotic animals that she worked with, goats are quite possibly her favorite.  Amanda became interested in librarianship while working at Disney’s Animal Kingdom; it is home to a superb library which provides keepers, educators and veterinarians with much-needed information on animals’ natural histories.

Amanda has been employed by Everglades University since December 2007, first as the Boca Raton Campus Librarian and, currently, as the Director of Library Services for all campuses.  She enjoys helping on campus and online students with library research and APA format and building the library collection of alternative medicine, aviation, business and construction management resources.  Amanda is a member of the Palm Beach County Library Association, the Florida Library Association, and the American Library Association.

September 2011 Library Research Award Display

Every month, Sara and Blake will choose one winner who will have a special display in the library. Their photo will join our “Wall of Winners” and they will be able to choose two new books to add to our library’s collection.

To enter, you simply need to use the library’s resources to research a topic of your choice and write a paper on it. You can submit a paper that you’re writing for your current class.  Make sure that your paper follows proper APA formatting guidelines!

If you haven’t been here before, or you just haven’t checked us out in a while, let me give you a brief tour of what we have here. Up at the top, we have tabs that can tell you what are hours are, how to contact us, or just a little bit more information about your librarians.

Over on the right, under the Categories drop down menu, you’ll see program specific links. Selecting any of these will bring you to a list of online resources for your program. This includes academic journals as well as magazines, videos, books and news sources. While we recommend heading back over to our library catalog and searching our databases for in-depth research, these can provide you with great starting points if you’re looking for a topic for a paper or want some up to date news.

Clicking “APA FAQs” will bring you to a list of Frequently Asked Questions regarding APA style. In the Meebo box, you can ask questions to a live librarian here at EU. Just make sure the mouth bubble is green and then ask away!
